Gordon Brown Set to Ban Broadcast Advertising
17th Jul 2007New Prime Minister Gordon Brown is set to scrap plans to allow gaming companies to advertise on television and radio, according to reports in the Times newspaper.
The U-turn in policy was indicated by new culture secretary James Purnell and is thought to come in response to pressure from religious groups and anti-gambling groups claiming that broadcast advertising will lead to an increase in gambling addiction.
This latest U-turn by Brown comes just days after he scrapped plans to build a new super casino in east Manchester.
