Gambling on the Rise
3rd Aug 2007The The Gambling Commission, the Uk's regulatory body for Casinos, Gaming machines, Lotteries and Bingo, has confirmed that the number of UK internet users going online to place a bet is on the rise.
A survey carried out in June found that 8.6% of adults in the UK had gambled on the internet in some form in the previous month, which is up from last years findings that came back at 7.4%
The National Lottery is still the most popular form of remote gambling, followed closely by Online Poker. Last year 5.2% admitted to using a computer, laptop or hand held device to place a bet online in the four quarters running up until June. This year though that figure stands at 6.7%.
Using a mobile telephone to place a bet is also on the rise. 3% of the adults who took the test admitted to using their mobiles to place a bet at least once in the month before the survey.
Males between the ages of 18 and 34 are the most likely to be online gamblers.
