Wheelchair woman falls down casino elevator
9th June, 2008
A woman fell 30 feet down a casino’s lift on Saturday after she hit the doors in her electric wheelchair.
A spokesman said the woman was “extremely fortunate” to be alive, although we do not the condition of the woman after the incident at Claridge Tower at Bally's Atlantic City.
The woman had been moving towards the open lift doors before they closed in front of her. She did not stop in time, ploughing into the doors and taking them off their tracks. As the lift had already moved off, she then fell down the lift shaft and landed 30 feet below, with her wheelchair then landing on top of her.
Firefighters got the woman out after a 45 minute struggle, having to use ropes and pulleys to get her out. The woman is now in hospital, in an unknown condition, but she was conscious when she was being transported.
