Wayne Rooney 'desperate to go to Las Vegas'

7th December, 2007

Footballer Wayne Rooney has said that he desperately wanted to visit the casino capital of the world, Las Vegas, this weekend to watch his friend Ricky Hatton in a boxing match.

The Manchester United striker reportedly begged his team's coach Alex Ferguson to let him travel to the US city this weekend.

But his boss is said to have been unhappy about the idea of Rooney heading off to the gambling haven as his team are playing Derby County at Old Trafford on Saturday.

"I'm gutted I won't be going this time but I wish him all the best, along with everyone else back in England and hope that he comes back victorious," he told the Telegraph.

Staying away from the poker tables of Las Vegas may be a good idea for the young footballer – whom the Mirror once claimed lost a £25,000 Chrysler to defender Phil Bardsley during a poker game.
