Voters show plenty of support for new Casino

It came as a surprise to many in the local area, however their is strong support for a proposed new casino in Lyon County, Iowa. Residents and locals turned out in their numbers to vote in favor of the new casino structure planning to be built and opened by 2012. 62.17 percent supported the project with 37.83 percent voting against the proposal.

"A 70 percent turnout and 62 percent (win) is a pretty big mandate in Lyon County," he said. "The biggest thing folks in Lyon County need is economic development opportunities. They need jobs. The whole concept of building a destination resort with other things to do besides the casino was appealing to folks."

Co-chairman of Citizens for Casino Truth from Inwood, John Fluit Jr., said "It would have been interesting if their money hadn't been an issue," he said, noting the amount promised to the county. If it helps increase those problems, there's no amount of money worth it," he said.

The Riverside Casino will apparently is "the full destination resort" according to Kehl Management.

Kehl said, "This is really the next generation" The casino will include several high quality restaurants, 1,200 all seated event venue, room for 800 slot machines as well as 24 gaming tables for poker, blackjack and other casino games.
