Vegas casinos rake in record amounts
12th December, 2007
A new report has revealed that casinos in the state of Nevada had a record monthly win of $1.16 billion (£568 million) in October.
The research from the state's Gaming Control Board found that casinos in the Las Vegas area were responsible for $638 million of the total amount – a 20 per cent rise on the same time last year.
Money won by casinos across Nevada as a whole was up 9.6 per cent on October 2006.
"These numbers are well above expectations for the month," Control Board analyst Frank Streshley said. "Normally we see a lull, but strong baccarat play really helped."
Las Vegas remains the most popular spot on the planet for gambling enthusiasts thanks to its numerous casinos and entertaining atmosphere.
Last weekend saw thousands flock to the gaming capital of the world to witness the National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas and Mack Center and the well publicised boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Ricky Hatton.
