US online casino fans 'defy ban'

American online casino fans continue to find ways around their country's Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement (UIGEA) bill, it has been claimed.

Poker Alerts reported last week that the US government instructed third-party broker ePassporte to stop accepting fund transferrals destined for online casinos from its American clients.

That loophole had enabled casino gambling enthusiasts to bypass the country's tough UIGEA regulations because the bill only outlaws deposits in online casino accounts and not their actually use.

But according to one leading industry website, gamers have simply responded by switching to other, less well-known overseas payment processors - many of which are listed at uscasinos.blogspot.com.

Analysts say that as well as exposing the practical shortcomings of the bill, this latest development will serve to drive internet-based casino activity underground, making it harder to monitor.

US Congressmen Barney Frank and Ron Pau this month proposed an amendment to the UIGEA which would dramatically limit the ability of federal authorities to police the ban.
