Tropicana robbed of top-player list

17th June, 2008

A list of over 20,000 high rollers was stolen from the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City and three suspects we indicted on Monday.

The three accused in the case were all casino workers that had formerly been employed at Tropicana three years ago.

The list had the names, phone numbers, addresses and other data on top patrons to the casinos, which was valued at being worth more than $108 million, according to New Jersey prosecutors.

“We charge that these marketers stole one of the most valuable assets of the casino, namely detailed contact information and ratings for its top-level players,” said Anne Milgram, attorney general. “This type of corporate espionage and theft involving proprietary information is a very serious crime.”

All suspects were charged with theft by unlawful taking, computer theft and conspiracy. Those charged include: John Conklin, 47, vice president of relationship marketing at Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City and former marketing vice president at Tropicana; Justin Litterelle, 26, marketing analyst at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas; and James Dimarco, 59.

Litterelle and Conklin were additionally charged receiving stolen property, while DiMarco only attempted receiving stolen property.

A sentence of up to 10 years in state prison along with a $150,000 fine is what may come of the heaviest charge.
