Pro-gambling lawmakers to bring in casino heavyweights

7th December, 2007

Boston's pro-gambling lawmakers are considering bringing in the likes of Donald Trump and Harrah's chief executive Gary Loveman to a hearing on the licensing of three casinos.

In a bid to quash the threat by casino critics who are against the legalisation of gambling, a number of casino chiefs could be invited to the hearing being held on December 18th.

However, casino opponents are against the proposals to invite the gambling heavyweights to the hearing, with Senator Montigny saying: "To me, Donald Trump strutting down to Beacon Hill with his bad hair day is not helping us.

"It will be exactly what you would expect. It will be a day of a media circus."

When asked whether Trump would indeed be there on the day, Dennis Murphy, who lobbies the Statehouse for the tycoon's casino company, said that no decision had yet been made.

The hearing will surround proposals to grant licences to land-based casinos in south-eastern Massachusetts and greater Boston as well as a third located in the west of the state.
