Policeman Charged for Casino Raid
18th October, 2007
A top Vienna police commander will have to face 15 month suspension in jail for ordering a raid on a casino to get rid of coloured visitors, whilst being corrupted from top to bottom through other unlawful activities.
The senior policeman, Roland Horngacher was found guilty on Wednesday in Vienna’s court because of abusing his powers in many different areas with a purpose of gaining some financial contribution “on the side”. He was disclosing the private and confidential information to an anonymous journalist about various cases and general police intelligence. It was also discovered that Horngacher organised the casino raid in 2005, that was owed by a friend. The only reason why he did that is so that he could use the luxury cars his friend had.
He was suspended from duty from August 2006 and is facing a possibility of losing his position for good. Nevertheless, his lawyer claims the man is intending to appeal against such verdicts.
