Casino software developer Playtech has recorded 97 per cent year-on-year rise in profits in the first quarter of 2007.

Revenues for the gaming company totalled $39 million (£20 million) in Q1 2007 - dramatically up on last year's figure of $19.8 million for the same period.

Of total revenue, Q1 casino takings rose from $15.2 million to $27.2 million, while poker revenues surged ahead by 161 per cent to reach $11 million compared with $4.2 million.
