Online casino mangers receive ethics training
27th March, 2008
A coalition of social policy groups and gambling regulatory bodies have hosted an ethical training conference for 40 internet-based casino managers in London.
The course aims to help senior executives in the online casino gambling world take a more pro-active approach to identifying problem gamblers and providing them with the assistance they require.
In an indication of how seriously the industry takes the problem - which has prompted some governments to outlaw online casinos altogether - managers from across the globe jetted into the British capital to attend the meeting.
Former UK Gaming Board chief inspector Bill Galston OBE welcomed delegates to the course and emphasised the importance of all operators adhering to a "coherent and professional responsible gambling program".
"For both humanitarian and ethical reasons - and to correct adverse misperceptions by some - a comprehensive responsible gambling policy is a critical investment for any online gambling operation," he said.
"eCOGRA (eCommerce and Online Gambling Regulation and Assurance) has made huge strides in this area in developing a set of best practice requirements for online gambling operations, and this third course on the subject will coach managers in how to apply these tools."
