Norfolk casino scheme under review
20th May, 2008
The East of England Regional Assembly (EERA) is to begin reviewing plans for a £35 million casino, hotel and leisure complex in Norfolk.
A regional planning panel will scrutinise the proposal on Friday (May 23rd), paying particular attention to developers' claims that the facility will help regenerate the area.
EERA has already issued a preliminary report indicating that the scheme - slated for the South Denes area of town - appears to confirm to planning policy.
However, it has also encouraged further investigation into the manner in which the casino gambling resort could make greater use of environmentally-friendly energy supplies.
Once it has made its final decision, the body will present its view to the Great Yarmouth Borough Council - which will then have the final say in whether to approve planning permission.
Pleasure and Leisure Corporation, the company behind the scheme, claims the casino would provide the local economy with around 1,000 jobs as well as redeveloping a derelict former-caravan park.
