With hit movie 21 raising the profile of the MIT Blackjack Team, one online casino has issued a unique challenge to the world's most famous card-counters.
21 recounts the true story of a group of students and alumni from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who used their mathematical know-how to will millions of dollars in Las Vegas during the 1980s and 1990s.
Their approach hinged on a complex strategy known as card counting whereby gamers calculate the probability of winning blackjack by tracking the ratio of high to low cards dealt during a game.
But is a sign of how much the industry has changed, BackgammonMasters.com has now called in the original MIT team to test its brand new, allegedly count-proof blackjack system.
While the platform incorporates its own odds calculator, it also utilises a range of features that are absent in live casino play such as random shuffles and multiple decks - something that Backgammon Masters hopes will outsmart the MIT team's approach.
To celebrate the release of the new platform, the casino operator will also be hosting 21 special tournaments in the coming weeks.
