Nevada Conducts Online Casino Study

27th November, 2007

With the help of University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), the Nevada Gamign control Board has conducted an online casino study to raise more data that will hopefully help the legislations of online gambling.

American officials have been trying to regulate the online gambling activity for some time now, but there is still a huge amount of speculations in the air as well as constantly increasing amount of critique towards the US Gambling ban and other restrictions for the offshore online casino operators.

Las Vegas Sun reported that the Nevada Online Casino Study aimed primarily at finding out the exact number of online gamblers in Nevada state and their attitudes towards legal online casino gambling. The study will demonstrate the important issues surrounding the industry. US Department of Justice has made most online gambling illegal in the country, so having this quantitative and qualitative data will help the officials to see if they are going wrong or right direction and if they need to modify any of the regulations.

Dennis Neilander, Chairman for the Board, had this to say on the matter: “This will be valuable information for policymakers.”

In the past Nevada was always quite liberal in the online gaming industry and even got 2003 legislation to work out how the online casino gambling could be regulated.

Just recently the Gaming Control Board said that there are some technology developments that should be able to get the exact location as well as identity of online casino users via the satellite signals. This in terms would enable them to check gamblers’ backgrounds and keep the database of all the users and their up-to-date online gambling activity.

Tony Cabot, the Vegas gaming attorney feels that the study could prove that the money is getting out of the country to off-shore online casino operators. This would mean that the government should rethink their legislations and try and regulate online gambling activity rather than ban it altogether.

“It's historically been the policy of the state of Nevada to regulate gaming so that we can protect patrons and make sure they get paid when they win,” stated Cabot.
