Mobile gambling 'next big thing'

20th May, 2008

Casino gambling on mobile phones is set to become the next big thing, according to one leading industry expert.

Brian Wright, business director at the Remote Gambling Association (RGA) said that predicting how large the mobile casino sector will grow is difficult, but that portable phones offer an ideal medium for gambling enthusiasts.

He noted the burgeoning popularity of remote gambling via the internet and said PCs and mobile phones are "becoming mutual products where you can almost have the same display on your mobile phone as you do on your PC".

"For a while now people have been saying that mobile [gaming] is the next big thing," Mr Wright affirmed.

"I wouldn't say that it will overtake the internet but there will certainly be a levelling off where one very much looks like the other - be it on your phone or on your PC."

According to the latest British Gambling Prevalence Survey, almost seven out of ten Brits engaged in a gambling activity at some point in 2006, including casino games, poker, bingo and the lottery.
