Mini-strip set for North Las Vegas?

7th February, 2008

The upcoming city of North Las Vegas is fast becoming one of Nevada's most popular casino haunts, media reports suggest.

While the reputation of its big brother - the original Sin City, Las Vegas - has long been cemented, the northern area has been markedly slower in building up a reputation as a casino-rich community.

But with five new casino gambling houses proposed for the region, spanning a massive 330 acres of development, many analysts have suggested North Las Vegas is evolving into a mini-strip all of its own.

City manager Gregory Rose acknowledged that to date the region's commercial and retail properties have developed at a far slower pace than its middle-class residential boom, but he said that was all now changing.

Alluding to the new developments, Mr Rose said: "We hope that gaming will be a part of it - but not the only part. We hope there will be theaters and restaurants and bowling alleys and spas."

The first new casino slated for North Las Vegas is being built by Station Casinos, a firm that has a reputation for leaning towards locals and budget vacationers.
