Man shot outside casino
5th June, 2008
A 62-year-old man was shot in the head outside a casino in Edinburgh, but authorities have said that the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The man was attacked on his way out of the Gala Maybury Casino in Edinburgh just before midnight, but the gunman managed to get away after being chased by witnesses.
“I appreciate it was very late at night but it’s a very busy junction, there’s the petrol station there, there’s the patrons that were within the casino,” said Robert Deas, detective inspector from Lothian and Borders Police. “Anybody that may have seen something, albeit they may think it’s minor, could be incredibly important to us.”
The Gala Casino is situated in the western outskirts of the city and the gunman was last seen getting away near Turnhouse Road. The man was wearing dark clothing, a baseball cap and was of medium height, suspects said.
Police are currently looking for any information anyone has that may help them solve this case, asking that the community provide any help they can.
“Over and above that, people that may hear things over the following days – this is the sort of community intelligence that has paid dividends for us in the past – if people were to come forward and give us any information they hear over the following days it would really help,” Deas said. “But I want to put this in perspective; this is still an extremely rare set of circumstances within the city of Edinburgh.”
The victim is currently held in a hospital recovering from his injuries, although they do not appear to be life threatening.
