Mammoth floating casino to open summer 2008
10th January, 2008
A new floating casino is set to open on the shores of Lake Michigan this summer with a 108,000 square feet gambling floor.
The giant structure, named Horseshoe Casino Hammond, will also house a 2,500-seat theatre on the second floor along with a buffet restaurant.
It looks set to be the biggest floating casino in the world and is being built just meters from the second largest, Blue Chip 2.
Work on the new site began last year but had to be halted during some of the winter as the lake froze over.
Part of the casino already exists and is functioning on the side of the lake, but the $485 million (£245 million) development will see it expand into the old Hammond Yacht Club building and the acre of land beneath it.
Horseshoe Casino Hammond will be the closest casino to Chicago and can be accessed by gambling enthusiast by boat or foot.
