Macau's casino's 'rival Las vegas'
24th January, 2008
Figures have revealed that Macau's casino industry is welcoming more players and collecting massive revenues, it has been reported.
Some 23 per cent more visitors were counted in during 2007 and more than $10.6 billion was collected in casino gambling revenue, lvrj.com wrote.
Macau opened four large casinos during the year, giving it a total of 28, which could have accounted for the 46 per cent rise in revenue, the website suggested.
The success of the Chinese enclave was also reported to be "closing in" on Nevada's statewide win.
Deutsche Bank gaming analyst Bill Lerner told lvrj.com: "The 2007 figures are pretty consistent and in line with what we had been estimating."
Jonathan Galaviz, a partner at Las Vegas-based business consultant firm Globalysis, said investment totalling billions from Las Vegas casino operators has boosted visitors.
According to World Casino Directory, Macau's future in casino gambling was sealed when its government opened up the industry to outside investment, in 2002.
