Las Vegas airport 'too small to house more visitors'

13th February, 2008

Casinos in Las Vegas could lose out because the city's airport is too small to house the increasing number of visitors flying in to the gambling centre.

Concerns have been raised about the size of the transport hub which experts say will not be able to cater for many more passengers.

This is despite the huge amount of development which is currently taking place in the world famous Strip, with 40,000 additional hotel rooms expected to be available over the next four years.

Speaking at a conference in Los Angeles, Deutsche Bank analyst Bill Lerner said that the hotels could lose huge amounts of money because Las Vegas airport will not be able to welcome enough visitors to fill the rooms.

Building work is already underway on a number of hotel casinos including Wynn Resort's Encore, MGM Mirage's CityCenter and Boyd Gaming's Echelon Place.

"The alarming part of this is that these are all well-funded projects," Mr Lerner said.
