Labour Party in trouble over casino donation

24th August, 2007

Reports suggest that $300,000 was accepted by the Labour Prime Minister, Gordon Brown from online betting giant Bet365.com. This move has angered the gaming community and also the local authority in Manchester following Mr Brown's u-turn on its super casino decision and the announcement of a review of gambling advertising guidelines.

"It would appear that the gaming industry is not as 'evil' as he makes out when it is benefiting him and his party" said one opposer to Mr Brown's policies.

The Labour Party's gift was revealed when the Electoral Commission published the Party's quarterly figures. Opposition parties have accused the Prime Minister of hypocrisy and greed.

A senior source in teh Conservative Party said; "Its a bit rich having Gordon Brown taking the moral high ground over "supr casinos" while accepting this six-figure sum from an online betting company."

The report also revealed that the Labour Part is £20 million in debt and in order to fund a public election campaign they would need to receive substantial private donations. But who to accept them from is the question now - do they do more u turns on public policy and accept money from those they are publically denouncing or do they stick to the moral high road they have publically taken?
