Happily Migrated Bodog
22nd November, 2007
Patent trolls with the help of US courts have taken a domain name away from Bodog, which was Bodog.com, some time ago now, but they never expected the popularity of the site to go down that quickly after acquiring it.
Using a patent infringement case, they left the owner of the Bodog online casino, Calvin Ayre, with not many options to choose from. Nevertheless, the online casino moved from being Bodog.com to BodogLife.com, which turned out to soften the potential damage the loss of the original domain name could have caused.
This is what Calvin Ayre, the company’s owner, posted on his blog: "...2.5 months of having all of Bodog's old domains black holed by the Patent Trolls over at 1st Technologies, domain evaluation experts say Bodog's original domains have lost over 75% of their value, while the new Bodoglife domain is now worth over $1 million dollars and climbing."
Ayre stated that when Bodog.com was taken away from him it was worth $692,580, but now, since the November 14th, the worth of Bodog.com became as low as $264,930. Basically, without all the attributes, such as online casino games, software, content, download and other users’ beloved stuff, the domain name is not worth anything and will not get any traffic aside from some rare visitors, that are not aware of the change of the domain name. Nevertheless, usually those who are looking for online casino knowing just a name, would google it rather than try guessing by typing in various combinations of domain names.
