Grand Casino to be Built in Spain
26th November, 2007
Last week the regional government in Aragon gave an official permission to build a £12.2 billion casino in eastern Spain, the project that will begin immediately and is expected to be built over the next decade on 5,000 acres in the Spanish desert. This amazingly expensive casino complex is going to include 32 hotels, 5 theme parks with more plans for a stadium, conference centre and a bullring. Basically everything anyone could ever wish for in Spanish casino resort.
There are speculations that one of the theme parks will be based on the adventures of the 007 agent and will be subsequently called Spyland.
The complex is expected to have 12 million visitors p.a. The developers say they expect the resort to become the most popular around the whole of Europe.
Aristocrat Technologies is an Australian gaming company, which is directly involved in the project. They are also very hopeful about the future success of the project. “This is going to be a new version of Las Vegas in Europe,” said spokesman for the organization. “It’s going to bring lots of jobs. Disneyland Paris will be tiny in comparison.”
There are fears that environmentalists are going to try and prevent the project from getting constructed by the plan, as even the provisional name of the project - Gran Escala, meaning “large-scale, suggests that the size of the complex is going to be significant indeed. This means more opposition from “green jackets”.
“Once again we are seeing that the local government is on the side of private developers instead of the needs of local people,” shared his views Adolfo Barrena, a member of the opposition party.
