Frisky Iowan fired over 'Sin City' mix-up

An Iowa casino worker has lost his job after drawing some questionable inferences from his employer's promise to lavish him with the 'Las Vegas lifestyle', USA Today is reporting.

Neil Jorgensen, 62, was awarded a $100 (£50) casino voucher by his boss at the Riverside Casino and Gold Resort in Iowa in recognition of one year's employment with the company.

After enjoying a steak and wine at the resort, Jorgensen retired to his room and - according to a recent state hearing - proceeded to call up the hotel reception and ask for the company of a prostitute.

"The advertisement is that it's just like Las Vegas, so I thought I was in Las Vegas," Jorgensen testified, before claiming that the hotel was ultimately responsible for his intoxicated state.

"I was absolutely ploughed," he added.

Hotel employees were less than amused, however, and after repeated telephone calls making the request - including one to the adjacent hotel - staff eventually made their way to his room to demand he stop making the calls.

"When the hotel supervisor knocked on the door, Mr Jorgensen answered the door in the nude," testified the casino's human resources director, Tim Donovan.

Administrative Law Judge Terence Nice rejected Jorgensen's claims for dismissal benefits.
