Donald Trump optimistic about Atlantic City
1st April, 2008
American business tycoon Donald Trump has refuted suggestions that he is looking to sell his Atlantic City casino gambling halls.
The influential figure had previously been in talks with at least two unnamed buyers about his significant casino gambling holdings in the city - which has endured consistently falling gambling revenues over the past few months.
Apparently undeterred by the gloomy economic situation, however, Trump dismissed reports he wanted to offload the underperforming institutions, telling CNN: "We're not looking at that - we're doing very nicely."
He did not confirm whether his properties had definitively been taken off the market, however, leading to speculation that close-door negotiations about the three casinos Trump Entertainment Resorts operates in the city may be ongoing.
Those institutions are the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort, Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino and Trump Marina Hotel Casino
While figures from the Casino Control Commission suggest the Taj Mahal fared well last year - taking in some $508.5 million (£257 million) - the Trump Plaza and the Trump Marina reportedly ranked last and next-to-last out of the city's 11 gambling halls.
