Cordish plans Tropicana Casino bid
14th December, 2007
Gaming management company Cordish Co is reportedly considering placing a bid on the Tropicana Casino Hotel in Atlantic City.
The hotel was denied a renewal of its licence this week after the New Jersey Casino Control Commission deemed that its current owners fail to meet state licensing requirements and lack business ability.
Control of the property was immediately turned over to an unnamed trustee, who will now be instrumental in finding a suitable buyer for the property.
Cordish Co has in recent times expressed a desire to move into full-scale casino management, last month teaming up with Las Vegas casino and hotel manager Dennis Gomes to launch a Gomes + Cordish Gaming management firm.
Commenting on the possible Tropicana bid, chairman David Cordish said: "We have been approached on multiple levels and are taking a very, very hard look. It fits perfectly with our Atlantic City strategy and existing holdings in Atlantic City."
For its first project, Gomes + Cordish plans to operate a $200 million (£99 million) slot-machine casino at Indianapolis.
