Coast casino revenue hits record high
21st December, 2007
According to a survey from the Mississippi State Tax Commission, gaming revenue rose by $7.2 million (£3.6 million) from October to November.
The figures show that more than $100 million was made in November by gambling haunts – a record amount for the area.
Boomtown Casino general manager Chett Harrison told the Sun Herald: "It's nice to continue to see that we're coming back, very nice. We hope it continues."
He added that over the winter months he expects even more profits as gambling enthusiasts head indoors to get out of the snow.
"Last year was spectacular," he said. Speaking about the winter he added: "We love it. We hope a blizzard runs through the Midwest."
The figures from the study solely take into account gambling figures and do not include the huge profits made on casino restaurants and bars.
It found that this year, Coast casinos earned nearly $300 million more than in the whole of 2006.
