Casino planned for Bournemouth

18th December, 2007

Gambling enthusiasts could soon be enjoying a new casino in Bournemouth which is set to contain 14 poker tables if it is granted a licence, it has been reported.

Named the Majestic Casino, the gambling hub is set to be built on a former ice rink and will also offer visitors restaurants and cabaret performances.

A decision on the development is due to be made at a hearing on January 21st but Bournemouth council is expected to object to the plans, according to the Dorset Echo.

Officials are concerned that the new casino will rival the £59 million casino and leisure development that a different firm is building nearby.

A spokesman for the council told the newspaper that the new casino could "lead to over provision and over dominance of gaming activity in Westover Road and would go against its aspirations of providing a variety of quality leisure facilities".

There are plenty of places where gambling enthusiasts can visit in Bournemouth including the Stanley Casino on Yelverton Road and Gala Casino Club on Westover Road.
