Casino granny sues for bigger jackpot

A feisty 77-year-old woman from the US state of New Jersey has initiated legal proceedings against an Atlantic City casino that she accuses of short-changing her.

Angela Domino won the jackpot on the Spin Poker nickel slot machine at Harrah's Atlantic City last summer, but once the initial excitement of her win had worn off a bemused Domino discovered that the meter had reset to $20,000 (£10,000).

At the time she dropped a coin into the machine - 20:26 local time, May 3rd - the figure had stood above the $86,000 mark, and the elderly slots enthusiast promptly demand the gaming house pay her the originally-displayed sum.

Harrah's Atlantic City refused that request, offering her just the $20,000 bounty.

The casino issued a statement saying that the nickel slot is networked to numerous other machines around the city and the $86,000 jackpot was won three minutes prior to Domino's game, belatedly causing her machine's jackpot to reset after she had started playing.

Lawyers working for Domino are seeking the original $86,000 jackpot plus attorney's fees and unspecified punitive damages.
