Bond Waves Goodbye to Aston Martin after Casino Royale
17th September, 2007
Devil May Care, Fleming’s first Bond novel will have more than one thing to get used to, as aside from the new Bond himself, the also has a new car. Before this movie the only car Bond would consider driving was Aston Martin; but in the Devil May Care his chosen car is Bentley.
The colour of the convertible Bentley in Casino Royale – the first Bond novel by Fleming is “Battleship Grey”; the same colour that James Bond’s car was described to be in both novels, Birdsong and Charlotte Gray written by Faulks in 1967.
Such a change will most certainly have huge disadvantages for Aston Martin, as after each film where the car was present, the reputation and sales have always boosted. After the last movie “Casino Royale” the popularity for Aston Martin have risen incredibly.
Here is what Bentley's global director of external affairs, James Rosenstein had to say: “It is wonderful that somebody has decided to go back to the roots of the original book, to Ian Fleming's own tastes and to James Bond's passion for the cars."
“Casino Royale”, the last Bond movie was played by Daniel Craig, and despite the fact that many said he has become more pitiful and less like a hero; the new movie is expected to portray the agent as “damaged and ageing”, as described by Faulk.
We are left to think if the character felt he needed to change some of the old habits after he became tragically widowed in Casino Royale.
