Apple iPad Could Revolutionise Online Casino Games

29th January, 2010

The Apple iPad was introduced to the world this week and not only is it the best gadget we’ve seen in recent years which could impact your life; it could also have a huge impact on the world of online gambling.

The iPad is best described as a large iPod Touch. Steve Jobs described it as, “So much more intimate than a laptop and so much more capable than a smart phone.”

The iPad will be available worldwide at the end of the month costing around £308. It is designed to do things better than smart phone and laptops including: sharing pictures, watching video, and working with email, reading ebooks and browsing the web. It is the latter function that should get the online gambling industry mostly excited.

Currently if a person wants to play online casino games they must use a desktop, laptop or smart phone. The Apple iPad could change all of that giving players the chance to curl up with their device and play games at instant casinos which use regular web browsers (e.g. virgin casino) rather than software that must be downloaded.

Gambling software developers may decide to create games specifically designed for the Multi-Touch screen technology of the Apple iPad. For example, you could slide chips to the relevant area of the blackjack table to place bets, or shoot your own dice when playing craps with a quick sweep of the finger.

It isn’t often that a new device is introduced which has the potential to revolutionise an industry. It is certainly possible that the Apple iPad could have a positive impact on the way we play online games in the future.
