Americans Against the American Law

16th November, 2007

The survey carried out by National Omnibus Poll showed that most Americans disapprove of various casino gambling bans, the US government has been trying to enforce. According to the survey, the citizens are much more appreciative and supportive of the different Federal control regulations designed to sort out the problem of underaged gambling.

The poll was carried out from October 18 to 21 with a sample of 1,000 adults. The sample was made representative by equally dividing contestants by gender and Democratic and Republican political party preferences.

The results showed that only 21% of the questioned public approve the new gambling ban. More than 56% answered that they strongly support Federal regulation of online casino and poker just as a way to control underaged gambling and only 23% were against such regulations.

Former Senator Alfonse D'Amato, Chairman for the Poker Players Alliance, feels it is important the congress learns from such surveys and tries to listen to the public instead of playing the paternalistic game of “we know best”. “Chairman Conyers’ hearing is an important step toward educating Congress about the folly of an Internet gaming prohibition,” he stated. “Such a ban won’t work and it is tremendously bad public policy. Only through proper regulation can we provide the proper safeguards for consumers and generate billions in additional and much needed tax revenue for this country,” added the former senator.
