888 online casino sees success without US
13th February, 2008
888 online casino has said that it has had a profitable year despite breaking away from the US market.
In 2006, the ban on internet casino gambling in the States hit the firm hard with more than half of its revenue said to be lost.
But the operator has seen a huge recovery in the last year, this week reporting a 36 per cent rise in net gaming revenue.
Chief executive Gigi Levy said when the figures were announced: "We are delighted with our results released today, our first full year of trading without any business in the US."
He added that 888.com casino was in fact a "far better company" since it lost the US market, as "sometimes it takes a trauma to be more efficient and more focused".
The success of the online casino is said to be through the introduction of its 888Ladies bingo brand and its expansion into South America.
