888 chief rules himself out of PartyGaming post

14th March, 2008

The chief executive of industry-leading online casino operator 888.com has ruled himself out of the top job at rival firm PartyGaming.

In addition to its staple 888.com Casino websites, the gaming operator recently confirmed it is moving into the sports betting market, echoing a similar move by the Party Casino operator.

But 888 chief executive Gigi Levy was quick to dismiss any suggestion that he would consider taking on the head role at his firm's main rival, insisting in an interview with Reuters that he had not even considered stepping down from his post.

"It's not something that even crossed my mind, let alone that nobody offered it to me," Mr Levy told the news agency. "I run the biggest competitor, so it has not even crossed my mind."

Reuters had posed the question following the revelation that PartyGaming chief Mitch Garber was stepping aside, despite the online operator dramatically reversing its fortunes by making pre-tax profits of some $6.7 million (£3.3 million) in 2007.

888.com recently launched the World Poker Crown, which has a guaranteed prize pool of some $3 million.
