The owner of Newcastle United has shown his dedication to casino gambling by betting £480,000 in a single day, onlinecasino.org is reporting.
According to the industry website, billionaire Mike Ashley astounded spectators at one of London's most exclusive casinos by placing the series of bets - all revolving around his lucky number 17.
The 45-year-old - ranked 25th in the 2007 version of the Sunday Times Rich List with an estimated personal wealth of £1.9 billion - ultimately hit the jackpot with a gutsy roulette bet in Fifty London casino in Mayfair.
Deploying an advanced strategy known as complete, Mr Ashley placed differing amounts of money on every number in the game.
Despite the bet-hedging approach the ball landed firmly on lucky number 17, landing the entrepreneur an unspecified payout and prompting an impromptu exit from the casino.
Onlinecasino.org quoted an onlooker as saying; "The winner's chips surrounded the winning number in every possible way. His win was cheered and clapped by spectators."
