18 People Arrested for Illegal Online Casino Gambling
15th November, 2007
News Channel Asia reported that three internet cafes in Singapore were raided and 18 people arrested on the suspicion of providing illegal internet casino gambling online to their customers last Friday.
The operation lasted three hours and resulted in police confiscating 84 computers, 21 fruit machines and over $13,700 in cash and arresting 15 men and 3 women. They later on raided their houses to look for more evidence or other illegal objects in the suspects’ private rooms.
11 out of 18 people have now been released without charge, due to the lack of evidence and “obvious innocence” of the former suspects.
“It was necessary to arrest everybody who could have been potentially involved in the maintenance and development of the illegal business, but we had to complete the investigation as soon as possible to be able to let the innocent people go.” The police representative stated. He also said that the seven people who haven’t been released will have to face charges in court under Common Gaming Houses Act.
